Wisdom of the Heart

You know the raw emotion that can rage when a foundation-shattering moment happens in life?   It’s happened to me several times.   The first time it happened, I didn’t understand the concept of grounding and when I realized that my marriage was over it felt like I was spinning out of control and was not sure I’d even survive.   I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t concentrate and focus like I had been known for at work.  It was kind of like an out-of-body experience.   Now I realize it was an out-of-body experience because I didn’t know how to get into and use my body to get me through that foundation-shattering time.

When I started on my path of energy healing, I started learning about the energetic aspect of the physical body and how grounding is such an essential practice. Grounding is really about getting into your body and connecting with the earth and the divine. However, in today’s society, we are so focused outside of ourselves that we forget that we have this amazing wisdom already inside ourselves.

In the last blog post, I mentioned the six wisdom areas of the body and I’ll get into more detail in the next several weeks.
First, I’d like to talk about the concept of grounding.  I realized that this concept is vague to many people.  After talking to one of my students about grounding, I asked if he knew how to ground.  He did not.   Many people talk about grounding without much thought about teaching how to ground.  In general, people know to go outside and hug a tree or walk around barefoot.   That’s all well and good and helpful to start.  What happens if you are in the city and don’t have a tree to hug or grass to walk around on barefoot?  What about grounding into your own body?

Another concept I have grown into is that we all ground in our unique ways.  We are not all the same.  Also, as we grow grounding techniques need to be upgraded. This is because as we grow and heal, we change our frequency or vibration and our grounding techniques must also be upgraded.

I learned this in a very interesting way.  I was participating in an intensive program where several therapists worked on a client.   One of the other therapists mentioned to me that I needed to ground myself.  I thought I was grounded, but clearly, I was not.  When the time was right, I asked about this and was reminded that I just needed to upgrade my process.
I’ve upgraded my process several times since then and that’s why I like these six wisdom areas of the body because they get you connected to the earth, to the divine, and to the body.   When this connection happens, ease and flow come much quicker, and trusting your knowledge becomes easier.

I started my grounding practice by simply grounding the earth by taking some deep breaths and feeling them go into the earth through the bottoms of my feet.  I then advanced to breathing into the earth, having the earth's energy come back up my spine and out the top of my head and up to the divine.  I’d breathe the divine energy back down and connect to the earth.  Then I was inspired to feel this energy moving up and down through my body locking in at my heart center.  For me, it was like two tubes of light locking in together at my heart center.  So, it was interesting to learn that Suzanne’s first wisdom area is Wisdom of the Heart: The gift of inspiration.

When was the last time you noticed or tuned into your heart? Your heart has so much to offer and often picks things up even before your brain does!  Your heart inspires you and if your heart and brain are playing together well, inspirations turn into action.  Many times our brain takes over and can kill the inspiration for many different reasons. Mostly fear.  When I get inspiration or need some, I’ll often sit quietly tune into my heart, and notice what comes up.  I’ll sit and write what is presented so that I can come back to it.  This is a great practice to get in touch with your heart again and begin to trust what you notice from your heart.  Then, when you get those special inspirations, you know it’s from your heart and you can trust it.
