Let’s talk about self-care.
Not the kind you see on Instagram with perfectly lit candles and fluffy robes (although, let’s be honest, those can be lovely). I’m talking about the kind of self-care that helps you stay grounded in the middle of a hard conversation… that reconnects you to your inner wisdom when everything feels chaotic… that actually supports you as a leader.
This is the heart of what we explored on the latest Resilient Woman Leadership podcast episode with Kimberly Lechnick—a powerful intuitive guide who helps women navigate transitions and tap into their own embodied truth.
If you’ve ever felt like self-care is just another to-do on your list, or that it’s not really helping when things get intense, this is for you.
Self-Care That Goes Deeper Than the Bubble Bath
Kimberly and I both see it all the time—women who are doing all the right things on the outside, but still feel disconnected, burned out, or resentful on the inside.
Why? Because the kind of care they actually need isn’t external—it’s internal.
Real self-care is tuning into yourself before you reach the edge. It’s asking:
- What do I need in this moment?
- What am I feeling beneath this reaction?
- Where am I abandoning myself in order to keep the peace or meet expectations?
And instead of powering through… choosing to pause, breathe, and respond from a place of alignment.
Emotional Intelligence is a Leadership Strategy
When we pause long enough to notice what we’re feeling—and stay curious rather than judgmental—we create space for clarity.
This is one of the most underrated leadership skills out there.
Whether you're dealing with conflict at work, friction at home, or even an inner critic spiraling out of control, that moment of self-awareness becomes a game-changer.
We don’t have to fix everything right away. We just have to get honest with ourselves.
And when we lead from that kind of emotional intelligence, others feel it. We become calmer, clearer, and more trustworthy—not just to others, but to ourselves.
Your Body Is Talking—Are You Listening?
One of the most powerful parts of our conversation was around the body’s role in leadership.
As women, we often carry unprocessed stress and emotions in our bodies. And if we never give ourselves space to release it—through rest, movement, stillness, or healing work—it builds up like static.
So when we say “listen to your body,” we don’t mean add another yoga class or drink more green juice (unless that feels aligned).
We mean… check in with the wisdom that lives in your bones. That soft “yes” or firm “no” that comes before your mind jumps in with logic. That sensation in your gut when something isn’t right.
Your body holds deep wisdom. Partnering with it changes everything.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
This conversation reminded me (again) that resilience isn’t built in isolation.
We’re meant to be in spaces where we’re supported, witnessed, and reminded that we’re not crazy for wanting something more grounded and soul-aligned.
You don’t have to keep striving and pushing. You can lead with presence. You can care for yourself in a way that actually sustains your power.
You just need to start with curiosity.
